I'm not surprised V3 failed completely as I doubt its all there but this presumed SIS driver issue has me stumped as I would have expected TXT console to be visible. Once again however when I finally get to the re-boot point to run it I am blind so i'm assuming same driver issues.

There is an option to load drivers from another media and asks for an ISO build at some tries but as I don't know the core nor have the drivers or a means of dropping to root shell to get them so i'm stuck. Had to choose all repositories for downloading services before I could proceed to the end point. Installer failes quickly at the Debian package stage but did proceed to build everything with re-trying after that. Tried installing this today onto the RAID5 volume to see if it made any difference. I don't know how this Debian build varies from the Ubuntu server but I suspect the SIS VGA libraries are not available nor possibly the networking after install. I can smoothly shut it down via power button and it does sound to power up fine without error codes or lights, Its just not accessible.

Post every install on V2 when it comes to starting up there is no video output past BIOS, not even console showing so I have no idea to what stage it progresses as its not registering a DHCP lease.

Being restrained by the install script on this PC is tricky.Īll this done successfully, the PROBLEM IS. The installs can be fiddly and most often I have to go back to re-try previous stages 'post disk volume' as they often fail.

Having got the initial build to install successfully directly on USB, I re-built again without swap on USB to see if it still worked with the intention of moving /var and /tmp onto the RAID5 Whereas it takes a couple of sessions to get the RAID5 virtual volume built 1st in order to choose it to install on it, it does work.

Over the last week I have installed successfully on a USB ScanDisk with SWAP, Without Swap, and on the RAID5 virtual Disk. Unfortunately this is not an option so its not suitable for headless use without re-inventing the wheel. It works very well and were I prepared to keep the machine attached to a Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor it would do the job superbly. And Good luck with your project! *Note: I will not be responsible for any damage to your system if it occurs in the process of you opening and/or modifying your system.Initially for testing I have been able to install and log into Ubuntu Server 16 圆4 LTS on this machine. It is likely that many more BIOS options are present in your system then mine since manufacturers never intended for the general user to access this console. (On my Acer H340 it’s JP3, on H341 it’s JP2) Please do the research for your model. (VGA monitor cable and server on pictures are not included :) Please note: in order to be able to get in to BIOS setup (F2 in my server), you must install jumper on the main board accordingly to your server model motherboard specifications. This adapter was tested on my Acer EasyStore H340 home server. And you will finally get to see the login screen of Windows server OS installed on your box. In the main BIOS screen you will grain control over hardware configurations including BOOT configurations (see pictures) that you need if you are planning on upgrading your server’s OS. You have a spare VGA input on your monitor and want to interact with your server directly. You want to boot from a USB stick or external DVD to install another OS (Linux,Windows Server, FreeNAS, OpenSolaris, etc.) -You want the ability to troubleshoot any boot-up problems without running a recovery that will destroy existing data. Why should you buy this adapter cable? -You want to play with the BIOS settings or re-flash your BIOS. *If your model is not listed, please let me know and I will check it for you. Supported models: - Acer Aspire EasyStore H340, H341 and H342.

You do not need complete VGA/PS2/Serial Cable assembly when you just need to get video output to your monitor, unless you need RS232 port or have to use PS2 keyboard and mouse. You will be able to view your server’s VGA output on your monitor by connecting this adapter to main board 26-pin debug connector (shown on pictures).

With this adapter cable you will be able to access the BIOS of your home server and interact with the installed operating system using a USB keyboard and mouse directly all you need is VGA output working and to use any USB Keyboard/mouse connected to one of the USB ports. In order to get motherboard’s video output on headless home server (like HP MediaSmart or Acer EasyStore) connected to the monitor you caneither buy a PCI-express 1x/4x Video card or this VGA video cable adapter so you can use the onboard video.
